c.1955 Horikowa, Super Robot Space Tank in Original Box

Superb friction drive tinplate robot-tank vehicle complete with original box. One of the more scarce robot-tank toys it features a classic, coiled antenna blockhead robot and alternating rapid fire cannons. It's also one of the few tank toys that's a friction drive not battery operated. It was not built with a sparking mechanism.

This toy is loaded with embossed (raised) metal surfaces. This includes the robot's arms, shoulders, steering wheel, rear louvers, front hatches, turret rivets, and turret star with a jet in the center. The turret raises manually up to a 45º angle. The tread sides and bogey wheels are all lithoed.

Friction drive is powered by four rubber tires. The front pair, located in the tanks center, are wider than the rear. The mechanism individually extends and retracts the pom-pom guns in opposite directions. It's lithoed with the manufacturer's trademark and "Made In Japan" on the rear underside.

The original box features a full color lunar illustration of the tank in action. A space station can be seen off to the right. The side panels have a different drawing with a profile of the tank in one corner. The toys' name and lunar landscape occupies the rest of the panel.
